Under the tide

Telling the story about a couple dealing with the unexpected loss of their son. The incident, of losing their child in the ocean, has silenced the couple and pushed them apart. As the father is filled with guilt and regret, he feels helpless to communicate with his wife who holds him responsible. Exploring the body of water and it’s power, “Under the tide” is the expression of two people finding themselves lost, trying to collectively deal with their grief and overwhelming anguish. Forced to embark this journey, where affinity and unity would be essential. They struggle feeling lonely and isolated, as never before.

 persuasion

Persuasion is a piece inspired by the idea of two individuals being dependant on one another.

Two men find them selves in a situation were they must keep quiet about something that has happened. One of the men is having a harder time dealing with his conscious then his friend. The friend, whom has accepted the situation, tries eagerly to calm him down. Dependent on that they both keep silent, he struggles to convince and persuade him that everything will sort itself out. As the piece develops tension builds up, and moral questions their relationship. The men go on an emotional rollercoaster which is expressed through a hectic and complex duet.

Unreliable

"Unreliable" was a commissioned work for the National Youth Ballet of Germany ("Bundesjugendballett" - John Neumeier).
It was collaboration with the "Junge Norddeutsche Philharmonie". The music selection of Alban Berg was a request from the orchestra.
"Unreliable" is an abstract work full of reckless, collective and vibrant physicality. Inspired by the musics unreliability, the piece circles around the use of breath in various ways.  As breathing is found one of the few predictable elements in life. What happens when different emotions kick in and even breath becomes unreliable.

detachment

“Detachment” is a piece inspired by exploring a situation of individuals dealing with separation and the frustration that can come along with it. Through a rather physical and rapid pace, I strive not to tell a literal story. However, I hope to create an atmosphere uncovering all the different emotions during separation. As well, it is a physical representation of the feelings one can experience when separating, or being forced to separate with someone whom they care about. To the point where the physical exertion and exhaustion of the piece, represent the emotional exhaustion and frustration that one can experience when trapped in this kind of situation”

Wool over eyes

“Wool over Eyes” is based on the old English expression “to pull the wool over someone’s eyes”, meaning to trick, tempt or misdirect someone especially to gain a personal advantage. Ever since a young boy, I heard my father using it and it always stuck with me for being a rather interesting expression. After listening to the music from Alec Roth which is filled with excitement and thrill yet has a certain layer of discomfort, it triggered the idea of creating a piece with a touch of a thriller. Two individuals whom persistently trying lure or fool someone. I did not want to create a direct storyline, however I’ve strived to create an atmosphere with suspension and excitement through complex physicality, musicality and composition.
